Technical Management

Julian has more than 35 years’ experience in the resources sector across a wide range of activities including exploration, development, mining and corporate growth.

He was co-founder and Managing Director of nickel miner Western Areas Limited (ASX: WSA) for 12 years (from 2000 to 2012). During his tenure, Western Areas grew from a $6m IPO to Australia’s No. 1 independent nickel sulphide producer through the discovery and development of the high-grade Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll nickel sulphide deposits in Western Australia. 

In 2013, Julian joined copper explorer MOD Resources Limited as Managing Director. Under his leadership, MOD established a substantial licence holding in the very prospective and underexplored Kalahari Copper Belt in Botswana and delivered exploration success through the discovery of the significant T3 and A4 copper deposits.

Sandfire Resources Limited (ASX: SFR) acquired MOD in 2019 in a $167 million takeover and has since begun progressing mine development of MOD’s discoveries. Julian remained with Sandfire post-takeover in the role of Director, Growth and External Affairs – EMEA up until he joined St George Mining in March 2022.

Charles has over 35 years’ experience as a geologist in the mining industry. He worked with WMC Resources Limited for 16 years, holding various senior exploration and operational positions including Exploration Manager - Nickel Exploration Australia, and Geology Manager Hill 50 Gold Mine. 

During his time with WMC Resources, Charles was instrumental in the discovery of the Argo gold mine at Kambalda and managed exploration programmes during the discovery of the West Musgrave Nebo and Babel deposits.

After five years as the initial Managing Director of Northern Star Resources Ltd, Charles joined Western Areas Limited in 2008 as General Manager Exploration.

During his 9 years at Western Areas, that company developed the Spotted Quoll deposit, significantly increased its resource inventory and became Australia’s No. 1 independent nickel sulphide producer.

Dave Mahon joined St George in December 2018 and since then has supervised all exploration programmes at Mt Alexander and our Paterson Project. Prior to joining St George, Mahon gained specialist nickel sulphide expertise working with Western Areas Limited (ASX: WSA) as a mine geologist and project exploration geologist, including at the Forrestania nickel operations and across several regional exploration projects. Dave is a graduate of Curtin University with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Geology and a Bachelor of Commerce.
